The Costa Blanca (White Coast) has over 200 kilometres of coastline and is split into two very different areas, the Costa Blanca North from Alicante up the coast to Dénia and the Costa Blanca South which extends from Alicante to the border of Murcia in the South. Both are very beautiful and different, with the North being more Mountainous and greener and the South being less so.
The Costa Blanca North has many famous hidden coves, pebble and lovely sandy beaches, small and super large yacht Marinas. Listing a top ten of beautiful Beaches along the Costa Blanca coast is always going to cause a debate but here we go…
We have placed these coves and beaches in order from the wonderful City of Alicante up to Dénia.
1. Playa El Altet – Alicante City
A spectacularly, protected and unspoilt stretch of soft sandy beach; located by Alicante City and its huge yacht and sports Marina. The beach is protected by natural grassy dunes and is accessed by a wooden boardwalk from the road. Here are no bars or busy restaurants just sand, dunes, nature, trees and tranquillity.
2. Playa La Caleta – Villajoyosa
Villajoyosa is a huge sandy beach in the shape of a crescent with the Harbour, north and the coves south. Villajoyosa really is a collection of natural rocky and sandy beaches but in general it is Playa La Caleta that draws most people to the area. The beach has a host of bustling bars and trendy restaurants and its historic Old town seconds away.
3. La Cala – Villajoyosa/Benidorm
La Cala is the most wonderful small crescent sandy beach in-between Villajoyosa and Benidorm, visited by Families and locals to its shallow clear blue waters. The beach like Villajoyosa beach has a host of bustling bars, trendy restaurants and shops.
4. 5. Playas Levante and Poniente – Benidorm
Benidorm has two of the most popular wide sandy beaches in the whole of Spain Playas Levante and its Sister beach Poniente stretches some six kilometres by the busy town. As one may know this is possibly one of the two busiest beaches in Europe and draws visitors from far and wide. The waters are calm, blue and have the Isla de Benidorm/ Peacock Island just a small boat trip away.
6. Playa Racó de lÁbir de Alfaz del Pi and Altea
These beaches are the perfect place to rest and enjoy the soft lapping waters over the natural emanating that wonderful wave sound over the pebbles. The beaches stretch from Albir along the bay to Altea and host some of the most wonderful restaurants and bars with the Harbour as its centre.
7. Playa de la Fossa o Levante – Calpe
Calpe has two huge wide soft Sandy beaches that stretch either side of the famous Calpe rock ´The Peñon de Ifach. The rock is a small nature reserve jutting high above the Marina and town with walker and climbers from far and wide coming to visit her. Both beaches enjoy boulevards with shops, bars and great restaurants and in the winter months play host to Kite surfers enjoying the unique wind generated by the Rock.
8. Playa El Portet – Moraira
Possible one of the most beautiful and chic beaches of the Costa Blanca, El Portet is a jewel and forms part of beautiful beaches of this iconic town. Surprisingly not many visitors are aware of El Portet beach and its fine dining restaurant and the newly open Hotel Mañet both occupy amazing positions overlooking the sandy beach where the boats and Yachts come to anchor and relax. A special note of this beach are the sunsets, visitors come in the evening take a drink or just bath on the wonderful small beach.
9. Playa Arenal – Jávea
Considered by most, Playa Arenal is one of the trendiest beaches along the coast of the Costa Blanca, with its fine dining restaurants, lively bars and boutique shops. The Beach is again a crescent/Horseshoe shape with a wonderful boulevard with the Hotel Parador de Jávea perched on the rocks overlooking the small bay.
Dénia may have the largest stretch of natural sandy beaches along the whole of the Costa Blanca. It starts in Las Rotes by the Large Yacht Marina and along the coast through the Historic town passed the Fabulous Harbours and Sports Marinas where the Ibiza Ferry leaves to Las Marinas to the border of the Costa Blanca.
